Keeping your smile beautiful depends on keeping it healthy. At Diestel & Partners, we recommend getting a check-up and clean every six months for most patients.

If you have gum disease or other conditions, we may recommend more frequent visits. Our hygienists are thorough and gentle, ensuring you get the best results possible.

What to Expect

If it’s your first visit to our office, you’ll have a check-up with your dentist. They’ll do an exam and X-rays, including bitewings and, if needed, OPGs. They’ll explain any problems they find and answer any of your questions. Then they’ll let the hygienist know if there are areas where they should pay special attention.

Your hygienist will then use an ultrasonic scaler to remove plaque and tartar from the gum line and between teeth. We strive to make your session as gentle and comfortable as possible. Afterwards, your hygienist will finish with a fluoride treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should kids get cleanings?

We recommend bringing your child in once a year for a scale and polish. If there are issues that warrant frequent removal of plaque and tartar, your dentist or hygienist will let you know.

How long will it take?

Each person’s teeth are different, so the time can be anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. Most people spend about 45 minutes with us for the scale and polish.

Will I see the dentist at every appointment with a scale & polish?

No. On your first visit, you’ll see the dentist for an exam, and then the hygienist will do your cleaning. We recommend having them done with the hygienist every six months, and a check-up with your dentist once a year. If you have periodontal issues, we’ll recommend more frequent visits.
